Seattle Sounders has defeated Los Angeles Galaxy in an MLS reserve league game by a close margin of 3-2. Both the teams fought very hard and it was a thrilling encounter. But, the Sounders held their nerves during the final moments of the game and won the match. Steve Zakuani scored twice for Sounders and played a major role in the team’s victory. The new signing of the Sounders, Mario Martinez, also made his debut for the club by playing in this match. He played in the match for 67 minutes and looked in good touch. Martinez has been in fine form recently. He performed brilliantly for Honduras in the London Olympics. He played well against Galaxy and created some opportunities.
The Galaxy team started the match well and took the lead in the 35th minute of the match with the goal of Jose Villarreal. The sounders didn’t manage to score the leveller in the first half and at the end of the first half; the scorecard was saying 1-0. The Sounders made a comeback when Zakuani scored his first goal in the match in the 72nd minute. This was the first goal scored by Zakuani in the last 16 months. However, Galaxy got ahead again just a few minutes later when Michael Stephens beat Josh Ford, the goalkeeper of Sounders, with an amazing shot. It seemed that Galaxy might run away with the game. But, it was Zakuani again who brought his team back into the match by scoring his second goal in the 84th minute. The match was going towards a draw, but, Sammy Ochoa netted in the 90th minute of the match and secured his team’s victory.
After the match, Zakuani said that it was nice to score a goal after such a long time, but, had he played the whole match, he would have been happier. Zakuani came to play as substitute in the second half of the match. Zakuani also praised Ochoa and said that he was the real hero of the team’s victory.
