2016 was a historic year for Seattle Sounders for various reasons

Seattle Sounders finished their 2016 MLS campaign by snatching the 4th spot of the Western Conference and this is a very impressive feat to accomplish for a club that was positioned in the bottom spots in the earlier stages of that season of the MLS.

The MLS outfit that is currently being guided by Brian Schmetzer later went on to secure their first MLS Cup ever in the entire history of the club.

Being able to go from the 9th spot in the MLS to snatching the 4th position is what Seattle Sounders went through in 2016 and it was a memorable thing to achieve but something that make it even more meaningful is the fact that Seattle Sounders was able to win their first MLS Cup after defeating Toronto in a dramatic penalty session.

It’s because of this remarkable triumph that the MLS club was awarded with the Sports Story of the Year during the 82nd annual MTRWestern Sports Star of the Year ceremony which was held at the Paramount Theatre on February 10 of 2016.

The owner of Seattle Sounders Adrian Hanauer revealed his thoughts after his club was granted with the Sports Story of the Year as the 51 year old American businessman went on to say:

“It is an incredible honor to be selected as Sports Story of the Year, especially given the accomplishments of our fellow Seattle sports teams over the past season. Our club is humbled to have added to Seattle’s illustrious sports history by bringing home our first MLS Cup. This award, like the Cup itself, belongs not only to our club’s talented players, coaches and staff, but also to this city, region and all of our incredible fans.”
